पश्चिम बंगालमध्ये ममता बॅनर्जी यांच्या सरकारविरोधात जनतेच्या मनात जो संताप धगधगत होता, त्याची सुरूवात आर.जी.कार मेडीकल कॉलेजमध्ये झालेले सामुहीत बलात्कार प्रकरणापासून झाली.
संदेशखाली प्रकरणामुळे आगीत तेल ओतण्याचे काम केले. दोन्ही प्रकरणे महीला सुरक्षेशी, महिलांच्या आत्मसन्मानाशी संबंधित होती. या आगीत ममता यांचे सरकार खाक झाले. शुभेंदु अधिकारी यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली भाजपाचे सरकार ९ मे २०२६ रोजी राज्यात सत्तारुढ झाले.
अवघ्या दोन महिन्यात राज्यातील कायदा सुव्यवस्थेवर पुन्हा एकदा मोठे प्रश्नचिन्ह लागले. अधिकारी यांनी ते अवघ्या चार दिवसात पुसून टाकले. पिडीतेच्या कुटुंबाला चार दिवसात न्याय मिळवून दिला, तोही अगदी योगी स्टाईल.
मुख्यमंत्री शुभेंदु अधिकारी यांच्या कानावर हे बारुईपूरचे सामुहीक बलात्कार प्रकरण आल्यानंतर त्यांनी पूर्णपणे संवेदनशीलता दाखवली. मुलीच्या वडीलांशी फोनवर संपर्क साधला. नंतर त्यांची व्यक्तिगत भेट घेऊन सांत्वन केले. त्यांना दिलासा दिला.
‘आरोपींना फासावर लटकवू’, असे आश्वासन दिले. पोलिसांना ७२ तासात कारवाईचे आदेश दिले. कोणतीही हयगय झाली तर एकाही चुकार पोलिसाला सोडणार नाही, असा दम भरला. त्याचे परीणाम समोर दिसतायत.
प.बंगालमध्ये फक्त सत्ता बदल झालेला नाही, सत्ताधाऱ्यांच्या मानसिकतेतही बदल झाला आहे, हे शुभेंदु यांनी दाखवून दिले.
West Bengal had long been simmering with public anger against the government led by Mamata Banerjee. That anger began with the alleged gang rape and murder at R.G. Kar Medical College, and the Sandeshkhali case further intensified public outrage.
Both incidents were closely linked to women’s safety and dignity. Ultimately, this wave of anger brought down Mamata Banerjee’s government.
Under the leadership of Shubhendu Adhikari, the BJP formed the government in the state on 9 May 2026. However, within just two months, another major incident raised serious questions about law and order in the state.
Adhikari’s administration responded within just four days. The victim’s family received swift justice in what many described as a “Yogi-style” response. As soon as Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari was informed about the alleged gang rape case in Baruipur, he responded with sensitivity.
He personally spoke to the victim’s father over the phone and later met the family to offer his condolences and reassurance. He assured them that the accused would be given the harshest punishment, saying they would be “sent to the gallows.”
He directed the police to take action within 72 hours and warned that any negligence would result in strict action against the officers responsible.
The results of those orders soon became visible. According to this account, West Bengal has not only witnessed a change in government but also a change in the mindset of those in power, something Shubhendu Adhikari sought to demonstrate through his handling of the case.
