जपानच्या पंतप्रधान साने ताकाईचि भारत भेटीवर आल्या होत्या. भारत-जपान दरम्यानच्या १६ व्या वार्षिक शिखर परिषदेत दोन्ही देशांमध्ये आर्थिक, संरक्षण आणि तंत्रज्ञान क्षेत्रातील सहकार्य वाढवण्यासाठी अनेक महत्त्वपूर्ण करार आणि सामंजस्य करार करण्यात आले.
भारत आणि जपानमध्ये झालेली ही भागीदारी चीनसाठी मोठा झटका मानली जात आहे. जपान हा नाटो गटातील देश आहे, परंतु गेल्या काही वर्षांत अशा काही घडामोडी घडल्या आहेत की, अमेरिका आणि युरोपातील देशांपेक्षा जपानला भारत अधिक विश्वासू भागीदार वाटतो आहे. जपानचे दिवंगत पंतप्रधान शिंजो आबे यांच्याशी पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांचे अत्यंत घनिष्ठ आणि मैत्रीपूर्ण संबंध होते.
जपानच्या पंतप्रधान साने ताकाईचि यांनी “आबे हे माझ्या थोरल्या भावासारखे होते,” असे विधान केल्यानंतर पंतप्रधान मोदी म्हणाले की, “आबे हे तुमच्या मोठ्या भावासारखे असतील तर तुम्ही माझ्या लहान बहिणीसारख्या आहात.
“अर्थ स्पष्ट आहे, दोन्ही देशांमध्ये असलेल्या संबंधांवर भूराजकीय घडामोडींचा प्रभाव असला तरी त्यात आत्मीयतेचे व विश्वासाचे नाते आहे, जे देशांचे संबंध प्रदीर्घ काळ टिकण्यासाठी महत्त्वाचे आहे. अमेरिकेचे राष्ट्राध्यक्ष डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प यांचा सनकीपणा आणि चीनचा विस्तारवाद यामुळे भारत-जपानचे संबंध अधिकच घट्ट झाले आहेत.
Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi visited India recently. During the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit, the two countries signed several important agreements and memorandums of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy, defence, and technology. This growing strategic partnership between India and Japan is being viewed as a significant setback for China. Although Japan is a key ally of the Western security bloc, recent geopolitical developments have led Tokyo to see India as a more reliable and trustworthy partner than even some of its traditional allies in the United States and Europe. Late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe shared an exceptionally close and warm relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Referring to that bond, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said, “Abe was like an elder brother to me.” In response, Prime Minister Modi remarked, “If Abe was like your elder brother, then you are like my younger sister.” The message was clear: while geopolitical interests certainly shape India–Japan relations, the partnership is also built on mutual trust, personal warmth, and a sense of shared values—qualities that help sustain long-term strategic ties. The unpredictability of U.S. President Donald Trump and China’s growing expansionism have further strengthened the relationship between India and Japan.
